There are three papers in Electronic Engineering Times.(Jan 20,1997)
"ADSL models speed infobahn access" by John M.Cioffi,Chief Technology Officer,AMTX. "xDSL gets call for data delivery over copper" by George Zimmerman, Chief Scientist,PairGain. "ADSL looks to advances in chip design" by Jacques Issa from Motorola.

Something worry me about AMTX position in Motorola paper. quota from the paper:

"Early proof of concept versions of ADSL moderm chip sets required as much as 20 W aeverage per line. These system were implemented with off-the-shelf DSP's and discrete analog components, resulting in costly and power-hungry moderms that never were intended for commercial deployment. The industry has come a long way since then, with current systems have cut the power consumption of ADSL moderms in half. By the middle of 1997, with the introduction of Motorola's CopperGold ADSL solution, the power consumption will be cut in half again to less than 5 W (transceiver, line driver and communication controoler) "

My guess is above statement is AMTX moderm
