All, hows this for a strategic move by AMD, since Apple has now said that its OS will soon run on x86 platforms (see cbs.marketwatch.com AMD should implement support for AltiVec instructions (like 3DNow and Katmai, but much more sophicticated) in the 0.18µ version of the K7. In return, Apple would support the instructions in its OS and promise to use the K7 as exclusive x86 processor in its workstations. This would also make Motorola happy and improve AMD's image with the server and 'high end' crowd.

BTW, here's the interesting quote from the Apple article:
Also buoying hardware shares were remarks from Apple co-founder and chief executive Steve Jobs. Apple (AAPL) shares bounced higher after Jobs revealed that the upgraded version of the company's PowerMac G3 desktop will run on Intel as well as Motorola (MOT) chips.
