To the board: Here"s a snippet I picked up from WSJ page.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- AtHome Corp. said it will spend $100 million
over two years to build a new high-speed Internet backbone with AT&T
Corp. and will drop Sprint Corp. as its long-distance carrier.

AtHome said the switch is unrelated to AT&T's pending acquisition of
Tele-Communications Inc., AtHome's largest shareholder. AtHome provides
high-speed Internet access via cable-television systems to about 300,000
subscribers. The long-distance network is needed to connect local cable
systems with each other and with sources of AtHome's programming.

The $100 million investment by AtHome includes the cost of installing routers
and other equipment in AT&T's facilities. Terms weren't disclosed.

Milo Medin, AtHome's senior vice president and chief technical officer, said
AT&T beat other bidders to supply high-speed fiber-optic capacity
connecting all major U.S. markets and many smaller ones as well. AtHome
will receive two channels each capable of carrying 2.5 gigabits of data per
second over AT&T's 15,000-mile network, Mr. Medin said.

He also said the new network will increase the capacity of AtHome's
long-distance backbone 100-fold, and will increase further with advances in
optical transmission over the 20-year life of the contract. I know not everyone subscribe's so frequently the URL is a waste to many. good investing lnk.
