To all- Nice run up today. I've tried to research what is up. The main thing that I can come up with is that this was the first day of the "big" Morgan-Stanley Dean Witter Telecommunications Equipment Conference in New York with 2 more days to follow. Most all Telecom. Eqt. makers are presenting at this MAJOR conference. MSDW is the largest broker in USA with annual sales of $27 billion. Morgan Stanley DW analysts, as well as other key analysts are present, as well as the various large mutual fund buyers, managers, institution reps. that buy research from MSDW(Morgan Stanley Dean Witter)
MSDW has 137 "all star analysts" ( as rated by institutions, and more than any other broker) The MSDW analyst covering Tellabs is Alkesh Shah. He,earlier on 12/14/98 ,presented a 2 page update & opinion on Tellab's ( I will post it, once I get hard copy), where he gave Tellabs a strong buy rating, their best rating and a 12 month target of $72. He has stated recently, that Tellabs is Morgan Stanley Dean Witter's NUMBER ONE choice in telecom.eqt.wireline industries, with best of class products, new products, and he felt comfortable about Tellab's growth and strong sales over the next 2 years.(Editor's comment, before the end of 2 years, there will be a number of new products forthcoming ( see my previous posts)from Tellab's that IMHO will carry it nicely beyond this 2 years)
Now my inside source states, that Tellab's has not even presented yet at the conference, but general statements about telecom eqt. industry, reinterations of previously stated opinions on Tellab's' ,cloak room talk,, caused Tellabs to go up + 19.8 % today.( the other telecom eqt cos. had a good day also)
4 th ¼ , traditionally is great ¼ for Tellab's and they started ¼ with largest backlog ever.
I could be wrong, but I can find no substance to buy out rumors by NT,etc.
You have about 5 million+ shares of TLAB in short position out of total 190 million shares, and I'm sure these shorts are being squeezed (g) ,and need a new pair of shorts.
January is usually the month, major institution buyers come after strong sectors with their surplus cash. Remember that Tellab's is owned about 82 % by institutions.
What do I suggest (that everyone does his own DD), we are not done with upside. I certainly wouldn't be a short seller, nor would I cash in my shares at this point.
Good Hunting (some one please post this over at Yahoo string)
