EMU will be awfully rough on some segments of society and, sure, political problems could make matters worse. Not necessarily tomorrow or this month though. Long-term, a lot of it depends on what they let corporations get away with (excessive mergers, relocations etc.) The Wall St. Journal pointed out that Europeans a less likely to embrace the kind of cut throat capitalism as Americans; they saw this as negative for the euro.
