Herm, Thanks bunches to you and Doug for all you have done in your work and your sharing and I hope you both (and the thread) will have a healthy and profitable 1999.

Now for questions.

I have read and tried to understand two investment/trading related issues and can't seem to grasp them. Perhaps you or someone on this thread can explain it on the kindergarten level :)

1. Short Interest (why do I need to know this and what do the numbers indicate)?

2. I know you have explained this one before but ...
When the VIX goes up do I buy calls or puts? And what is the "norm" vs. "up" and where are we now? (don't bother sending me to McMillan's site because I've read that over but don't know if I understand it.
