Lynn, I think Charlie Wolf is stuck in a time warp. However is is a summary of todays CPQ news.
NW
Warburg Dillon Read said analyst Charlie Wolf started coverage
of five personal computer makers. Started DELL COMPUTER, APPLE
COMPUTER and GATEWAY INC as buy. Called Dell the top player within
the PC universe. Said Apple was "perhaps best positioned and most
attuned to exploit the growth of the Internet." Said Gateway could
deliver upside earnings surprises in 1999. Started COMPAQ COMPUTER
and MICRON ELECTRONICS INC as hold. Said Compaq faces two
challenges: Integration of sales and services organization from
Digital Equipment and re-engineering of its distribution
logistics. Said Micron has staged a major recovery but said an
"open question is whether the company can execute its marketing
strategy to target the mid-sized business market. (Reuters 10:33

* COMPAQ COMPUTER, in a move that was expected, said it would
offer a series of desktop computers that allow users to digitally
network their homes using existing phone lines. Compaq said the
technology would allow customers to use simultaneously the
Internet, print to a shared printer, and talk on the telephone.
The company will offer a complete home system later this month.
Each of the Presario Internet PCs includes a digital modem that
can access the Internet at connections up to 25 times faster than
current 56K modems. The computers further Compaq's attempt to
offer home networking to retail customers. Later in January,
Compaq said it will offer an entire home networking package.

have added two new offerings to their joint solutions portfolio
for the North American market. The two new Compaq-Lotus knowledge
management offerings include Knowledge Associates' Knowledger. The
applications are designed to help organizations leverage resident
information and expertise to improve business performance. Compaq
and Lotus also said in a statement that they are expanding support
for their knowledge management solutions portfolio through a
relationship with CAMBRIDGE TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS, an international
management consulting and systems integration firm. (Reuters 05:17
