n.p.: The Globe & Mail reported today that the company will close its stores on January 18 in order to do inventory. This move has many confused.

It's very sad to see this once great company fall apart like it has. I've been going to Eaton's since the 60s and I always enjoyed shopping there but they have really fallen on hard times. I visited one of their locations recently and was shocked at the overhaul that the store had gone through.

You're right about clothes on all floors. It just didn't feel like Eaton's and the clothing and styles seemed better suited for Generation Xers. I'm not sure this is a good strategy as it brings them into direct competition with the American retailers that work that niche.

The problem with Eaton's is that they have alienated their traditional clientele by changing their product selection to suit a clientele that they don't have and may never get.

I don't know if, and when, a takeover will occur, but I hope the company can pull off their strategy. It would be nice if they can survive, it would be even better if they can survive on their own.
