Carmack has publicly stated that he is infatuated with NextSTEP, but dispises (sp) the MacOS. As any programmer worth its salt would. People who fawn around the MacOS/UNIX are living in the past. Those were great OSes in their prime. Today they are dinosaurs sorely begging for a redesign, which brings us to NextSTEP: a modern re-arch (Mach2) of Unix with a decent user interface.
