Richard,
You can purchase a downloader (made by Nirvana)from Telescan ($30). With it, you can download directly to metastock files.

I used to do that, but now I'm using Quotes Plus. It is better and cheaper ($12.95 / mo.). With it, you get the entire market (about 20000 stocks) and you can scan through it.
