I'm sure that the people working on 8i have known for months that it was going out in '99, in spite of the press release. Probably the slip in SQLServer took the heat off so that they could do an orderly release instead of one of those "the train is pulling out so we'll throw bags and passengers on it until we start coming up short and sort it all out later" product launches.
