You've probably already seen this and it's not anything
earth-shattering but it's promising for HP as a global provider
of cable modems. Dec 11 HP press release:

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that four Japanese cable television (CATV) operators -- Tokyu Cable Television Co.,
Kintetsu Cable Network, Himanari Network Co. and LCV Co. -- will jointly purchase HP QuickBurst Link, which comprises the HP
QuickBurst cable modem and Link Router. The decision to purchase HP products was based on a group study that found HP superior
to the competition on product price and technology. In addition, the joint purchase is an effort to generate volume pricing.

The HP QuickBurst Link is essential for the combined Internet and interactive communications services that the CATV operators plan
to offer in early 1997. The four CATV operators provide service to approximately 10 percent of the estimated 3 million households with
cable in major Japanese cities, including Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. The combined purchase volumes are expected to be released at a
later date.
