Clearly this new 'Palm V' is a redesign, so I don't know the dimensions either. The VLNC laptop battery (4"x4" format) is probably too big, and the cellphone battery (65x35x9.5 mm) may be too thick. The article specifically quoted the 3COM rep as saying that the new battery would allow for a thinner device, where the battery would "become part of the case."

I do recall Lev talking about applications for the batteries including 'handhelds and camcorders.' I've been thinking about this possibility all along. A perfect application. No doubt 3COM saw it as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're some of the people that the VLNC engineers have been working with since early fall, as mentioned in the CC, so that they could be well along on the design-in phase. Noting the time frame (late spring) for release of this product, perhaps one of the additional lines being installed in NI (or in Korea) is being set up for another size. (E.g., a slightly smaller version of the thinner laptop battery.)

If it's a battery that has not yet been manufactured from an assembly line, they can hardly promo anything at CES other than *possibly* a test product from Henderson. But having deliverable product in the March or later time frame is not unreasonable, if the rampup goes more smoothly with each additional line installed.

It's exciting to imagine that VLNC is the one; certainly they could become one of the suppliers. But other mystery suppliers could pop out of the woodwork. (Nah!) What a tease this is.....!
