[Investors Business Daily] is at investors.com

Go there then select 'Computers and Technology'.

Here is a bit of it ...

The author says, "Telephone companies are close to offering a service that many firms have talked about, but few have delivered. ... They plan to start rolling out high-speed Internet access to the masses this year. And they plan to do it the old-fashioned way, by using existing phone lines that reach into every home and business. ...
No need to lay fiber or rebuild their infrastructure. With a relatively new modem technology, phone companies will provide Web cruising speeds they say will peel back surfers' eyelids. ...
Optimistic forecasters predict that nearly a million people will be using DSL modems by late '98. Others say a few hundred thousand users is more likely. Whatever the case, it seems certain that DSL will get a commercial tryout. ... Equipment suppliers include Amati Communications Corp. in San Jose, Calif., Pairgain Technologies Inc. in Tustin, Calif., privately held Paradyne Corp. in Largo, Fla., and Westell. And many more are coming. ... Yet, the developers of other data communication products already are jumping on the DSL bandwagon through license agreements with DSL patent holders. The key holders of these patents are Aware and Amati, Orckit Communications Ltd., based in Tel Aviv, Israel, and privately held GlobeSpan Technologies Inc. in Redbank, N.J. "

Do these other guys really have significant patents? Well if so, we know they are not ANSI compliant.
