First of all brees, you quoted a rhetorical question that I posed to bob...each individual has a "unique-to-their-own-life" answer to that question...which I happen to believe is a private answer! I'm clear that you feel that a "marriage vow" is not to be breached. Perhaps that's a reflection of the culture within which you live...my uneducated supposition is that islam is reflective of (mainly) arabic cultures... Here in America, "marriage vows" are broken everyday...along with several commandments per hour. We don't do the "eye-for-an-eye" thing...for better or worse, who knows...I like "live-and-let-die", myself. In regard to "vows", you yourself, conceded that "maybe it's one thing to some people and something else to others." Can you apply that to reality?...I see you standards as unrealistic in the context of American culture...{see Existensialism} The reality that "vows" are not absolute seems to threaten what I believe is your foundation, your religion...it's my perception, based on how quick you are to blend the church, the state and a "community of witnesses"...it's a crowded room for something so exclusive and private as an intimate comittment. I think "ceremony" and "ritual" are contributing to the de-evolution of humanity...but cloning is about to change everything! If you really want to worry about the transgressions of man...you could focus some attention here...Big Science, Hallelujah... At least you won't be suprised by the unexpected.
