Bid.Com scoots higher
Heavy volume: Significant appreciation in U.S.e-commerce stocks

Garry Marr
Financial Post

Bid.Com International Inc. (BII/TSE), up 69¢ to $5.25, on volume of 10 million shares.

The online auctioneer's stock broke back through the $5 mark yesterday, a height it had not seen since Nov. 30 when the share price touched a 52-week intraday high of $6.

The company said it was "not aware of any material development in its business or affairs" that could account for the 15.2% increase in the stock price yesterday or volume that soared to more than seven times the average three-month level.

The company suggested the massive appreciation in price of U.S. e-commerce stocks may have helped push Bid.Com shares.

U.S. online seller Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN/NASDAQ) rose $13 1/2 (US) to $138 (US) for a 10.8% increase, while eBay Inc. (EBAY/NASDAQ), another online auctioneer, climbed $59 (US) to $283 (US), for a 26.3% increase.
