Jeff
I have looked in my Madera folder and found the following:
ECOTURISM
The growing trend of traveling to relatively remote and unspoiled areas has come toe be called nature travel, or Ecoturism. Increasing numbers of American, Japanese, and Europeans are going abroad as Ecoturist for educational and nature oriented tours and travel to exotic loactions. An Ecoturist, while appreciating the glories of nature, is dedicated to "conserving natural environments" and visit sites in a environmentally sound way. The Ecoturism Society, based in Alexandria, Viginia is dedicated to the "conservation of natural environments and to sustaining the well being of local people through reasonable travel." The company will offer group tours with ecological themes. To universities, non profit groups, travel companies, and environmental organizations which include some of the following: Earthwatch, Enternational Expeditions, Journeys International, Mountains Travel, National Audobon Society, Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund. Etc.
We anticipate that within the next three years the company will have made significant progress towards extablishing our other business lines. At this point tourism will begin to serve the corporation in two distinct ways.
1. As a source of profit that will increase returns and offset cost of other business lines. 2. By creating public awareness and support for our activities in the Amazon and the Rainforest as a whole.
Tourism is currently and will continue to be the largest industry in the world. The company by virtue of its public ownership and management of large portions of the Amazon Rainforest willl be uniquely positioned to participate in this industry. We would cater primarily to the environmental organizations, conservation enthusiast and to corporate and government officials who wish to learn more about our activities.
This was dated in April of 1996 and you need to realize that some of the statements made were plans that Madera had and could become reality at some later date. |
