Why can't a customer design a product around prototype samples?

You wrote:Paul, somehow I doubt that 3COMM designed a VLNC battery into their product coming out in the spring, given that as of December 21, the company only "expected" to be coming out with samples in early January.

I'm sure 3COMM designed a product around a battery they had yet to test. That would make a lot of sense.

I'm curious why you think a customer would wait until a supplier was mass producing batteries (likely for other customers or competitors) before they would begin designing a product around a Li-poly battery?

No one had production samples 6 months ago when the design for the Palm V was probably being done. Valence has been producing about 300 battery samples a day in Henderson since last June, and over 25 OEMs have samples from Henderson (according to conference call last June and latest IR comments).

Why couldn't have 3Com designed a product around one of the Henderson samples?
