David,

I read many reviews of digital cameras before finally deciding on the Olympus D-400Z. However, the Agfa ePhoto 1680 was one of the cameras I seriously considered buying, in addition to the Nikon 900. All of these cameras have superior image quality and camera controls. For me, price was the deciding factor at the time (I got the D-400Z for $699).

Now, considering that Agfa will provide you with a free Clik! drive in exchange for purchasing their camera - I now wish I could have waited before making my purchase. Had I done so, however, I wouldn't have been able to provide the thread with the pictures of Clik!. There's always a trade off, I guess.

Here's a site that let's you compare the image quality of many digital cameras - a must if you are considering purchasing a high-end consumer digital camera - which the Agfa 1680 clearly is:

Although the Agfa 1680 is not listed above, here is a new review (along with many image samples) of the 1680:

Conclusion about the 1680 from this site:

>>The Agfa ePhoto 1680 is a well-designed and flexible digital camera, with image quality and resolution at the top of the field as of this writing (December, 1998). Features such as aperture- and shutter-priority metering, and a provision for working with external slave-flash units should attract many users with a photographic background, and a desire for more control over their digital picture-taking than most digicams currently allow. The Agfa PhotoGenie image-enhancement technology appears to offer a genuine benefit, in the form of improved image quality at all resolution levels.<<

Looks like a winner to me!

regards,

Philip
