Tadpole is ready to release a new SPARC IIi laptop.

But in general the laptop market for UNIX was not sucessful, because
most people who use Solaris, use it for heavy-duty computing apps,
which requires a lot of RAM and disk. The laptops generally do not
have the expandability to support this.

Another reason being until MicroSPARC IIi, there wasn't a SPARC
chip that consumed very little power and has integrated support for
peripheral buses (either Sbus or PCI). BUt the problem with
MicroSPARCIIi was it was not powerful enough compared to
UltraSPARC or Pentium etc. Now with the advent of UltraSPARC IIi
(w/ integrated support low-power and graphics and PCI) it is possible
to build a reasonably performing laptops. Still I contend this
is a niche market, unless Solaris becomes a mainstream OS.
