So Lefty, You say it's unlikely that 3Com could have designed a product from last year's samples. I am sure you can argue that companies like 3Com are not known for thinking ahead. I wonder what four categories of batteries Valence has geared up for, as Paul's notes indicate. Do you have any idea what companies other than Valence have the Li-ion solid polymer mass production capability in place meet 3Com's needs?

Perhaps you could list the companies in order of highest to lowest production capacity, in palm pilot batteries per month, including your estimate for Valence. It might help your credibility if you can demonstrate that you have been doing your share of homework.
