"Sector Reports"
1/24/97 -- 'Tis the season of the financial statement, and a number of computergaming industry companies have released quarterly reports. For many companies, the third fiscal quarter ended last December 31st, so most of these reports include the all-important holiday sales numbers, critical to the survival of a number ofcompanies.

Electronic Arts, one of the largest computer and video game publishing concerns, posted revenues of $271 million, a 13 percent increase over last year. Net profits were $36.7 million, attributed largely to PC and PlayStation sales.

Activision reported revenues of $31,360,000, a 78 percent increase over revenues in the same period for the previous year. Net income was $4,120,000. Thecompany attributed their profits to a number of titles doing well over the retailseason, particularly MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, Zork Nemesis, MuppetTreasure Island, and some console products.

Spectrum Holobyte reported a net income of $5.7 million, a sharp reversal over last year's $9 million loss. Success with Grand Prix II, Civilization II, and Master of Orion II helped the company's sales.

With such positive reports from competitors, hopefully earnings might better than predicted or prewarned about back in Dec.'96.
Cheers
Bill
