Mike - I have been trying to nail this down for some time. When I heard the DSC CEO I heard him talk about their Airspan product and I heard him call it a CDMA product and that they were installing it in China. Later I heard him talk about cellular business with Motorola - this would be the switching business. When I heard him talk about Airspan I heard the following: "The Airspan product is a more difficult product for us than many - its prove in time is exceptionally long - and it requires frequency allocation. But the product is working extremely well and we think it is one of the best WLL products in the market".
I conclude from this that they are installing their own Airspan product and not selling to Motorola for their installation. I also think that I read a long time ago that their Airspan product is a different CDMA based WLL product than Qualcomm's. I recall a deal with Stanford Telecom to use their approach to CDMA. I also think I read that DSC is installing their Airspan for Metromedia in China which is not necessarily one of Motorola's customers in China for Qualcomm's CDMA.
I own both DSC and QCOM and would be very happy to find out that they are using Qualcomm's CDMA but I don't think so. If you can shed some light on this I would appreciate it. I also recall in last quarter's DSC report where they had problems installing Airspan in a former Soviet republic - another reason I think this is not Motorola's product.
