Hey, how come nobody answered my question about whether crystal glassware and decanters being discussed are leaded crystal?

I only ask because many types of classic leaded crystal have enough lead to give you some CNS damage (nervousness, forgetfullness, stress-like symptoms) and other results of lead poisoning in a fairly short time, depending on what you drink from them (how acid) and how young you are.

That's why they have stopped using real lead in the foil around the bottle top. If you open older vintages with a lead wrapper, the CDC advises wiping the top thoroughly before pouring. Probably you all know this already. I think fewer know how dangerous the old leaded crystal can be, especially if acidic fluids are kept in them.

My question is, if I buy new crystal, have they (hopefully) stopped using lead in that glassware?

TIA,
Chaz
