Tyan S1836DLUAN-GX "Thunder 100" dual-processor mobo

Thanks ZP, the dejanews link looks very useful, I scanned through a few posts myself and got some good info there. For example, several people used the same S1836DLUAN-GX mobo & SuperMicro 750-A case and apparently the fit is less than optimal. (not terrible, just less than optimal!) So I might have to contact Tyan to see what might be a better bet - I'll keep everyone posted.

Also, it appears that only the Xeon version gets U2W SCSI, the GX slot 1 board stays regular UW SCSI.

I'm thinking 128MB ECC PC-100 from Corsair at this point ... possibly 256MB to make it a longer-term investment. (and this is supposed to be a "Dream Machine PC" after all!)

As for the second hard drive ... you are thinking mirrored drives? As in, buy the RAID PCI Add-in to allow automatic real-time backup to a second drive? The thought had crossed my mind. Only thing is, until NT5 (or windows2000 or whatever) comes out, I intend to run a single processor and Win98 - would '98 support a RAID array like that? It seems that it would since its simply a hardware configuration with the Raidport installed, but I've NO experience with setting these things up.

And for the removable storage, I was thinking both - zip for inexpensive compatibility perhaps internal 250MB scsi version; although the USB offers greater portability with other newer pc's... And perhaps the jaz drive for other stuff, although I'd probably go to tape for backup - I'm thinking external for this, so as to allow portability to my future "server" that will receive my "old" 3940UW card, 3COM 10/100 NIC, etc...

Thanks again for the help, hopefully as this system shapes up we'll gain some more interest and discussion.
