<Can WSTL build that much stuff?>

Hey Jay. Thats really never been a concern of mine. Manufacturing is something I have a better understanding of. One of the reasons I like Wstl is their flexibility. MZ (don't hold me to the source) made mention that Wstl's fairly new plant can run three shifts. Maybe thats overly optimistic on Wstl's part but a view of the shop floor via Wstl's 1998 Annual Report leaves me w/ little doubt as to whether it could be done. Same report pictures the Coo J Nelson, guy looks like big enough of a prick to run the shop @ a glance & is qualified. :} Several of the folks here have visited the plant & the Co. left good impressions.

<Too many by an order of magnitude, yes?>

I don't think so but as always its the money as Charlie has pointed out thats @ issue. BTW, you would be real surprised what kind of demands you can put on a subcontracting vendor if the money is on the table. The convertible is an issue @ this point that will determine just what kind of mgnt is in this co & a look @ the job offerings leaves me with the question as to if work needs pulled back in. I see a problem with this coming issue but we all need the detail before any reasonable opinions can be rendered.

<Are they set up to out-source?>

Trey, steve s & a few others have been here much longer than I & its real hard to keep up to date with all this. The good doctor has mentioned that this has worked out good up to the last time he reported on such. I assume things are still going well & its another one of the reasons I like Wstl. Id keep this a little closer to home myself & I assume the above is for Lucent's sake. Im not fond of too much of this kind of thing but done in the right way subcontracting is a great way to pull things back into the shop when times get tough & I haven't seen where Wstl is too concerned @ this point but thats always subject to change.

<What is their supply situation?>

Per the 98 report & conference call (I think) inventory has been stream lined. Thats what engineers do best & Id think the CFO is due for an update any time now. :} Frankly, your asking me something I don't know. Dr. anyone?

<200K+ modems/month ... guess not, eh?>

Think I posted this before.

December feature

Managing ADSL Signals and Contending with Noise

Read the Jan hard copy & the numbers for total adsl deployment aren't even close to that per what they mention but suggests it doubles. Who knows? BA makes another dsl area announcement & wstl rolls? Not likely given the last year. Ill post the link if/when available plus a couple others & can briefly say the the Networking IC Directory doesn't even mention Ti's or Lu's chips but does Adi's @ $45 in 10k quantities Osi Layer 1, Ala's @ (10k quantities): $50.00 for 50k quantities Osi layer 1, what that means I guess is a phone call. GlobeSpan @ $39.00 in 10k quantities Osi Layer 1, 2, 3. Mot's @ $50 in lots of 50 Osi Layer 1 & maybe takes another $25 external embedded chipset & software @ $25 in 10k quantities, Osi Layer 1. Last but not least is Futsu's (my name here :} xdsl ethernet bridge controller under @ $20.00 in 10k quantities. Again this quickly @ a glance & I don't even come close to working for csdmag but maybe Lu & TI should ante up :}

The couple others are

Thought Paul. M might have a view here.

Buy your Wstl here now? gggg

2) Multi-Carrier Made Easy.

Another very good entry level article about "signaling structure upon which underlying modulation is built for added robustness."

Night,

P.S.

Ill post um if they show um. :}

Edit, I see MB has been hard @ it & posted one of the links in this post. MB notice how some of the Isdn patents are hinted @ in some of the G-lite stuff. I can't explain it but guess that it is a dial up issue of sorts & would think that hdsl/sdsl will be incorporated into an eventual standard. Just a thought & thanks for the links. Ill look a little harder when I get the chance.
