CB, I suppose I should read through the rest of the thread to make sure this hasn't been discussed exhaustively, but it sounds like ASND just didn't ship booked orders. No foul. If they were trying to maximize revenue, they would have had UPS and Fed Ex showing up until 11:59:59pm New Year's Eve.

MSFT routinely caches revenue for a rainy day. They've got a huge "deferred revenue" line. Their explanation is they are deferring revenue to match to the expenses required to produce that revenue (after-sales support?).

I think what ASND did is no big deal, MSFT's deferred revenue is a little fast and loose, and the stuff folks do with their accounting for employee stock options and acquisition writedowns are complete hocus pocus, and real misleading.

gotta get back to reading the thread and trying to catch up ... phew, following this stuff is like having a part-time job!
