A completely free market is like a perfect vacuum (may be wrong on that), an abstract concept that cannot exist in the real world. No existing market is completely free or completely regulated. All are somewhere in between, and one of the principal functions of the political system is deciding where in between we ought to be at any given point in time. The political system may not decide this perfectly, but it's a better alternative than dictation from one sub-group or individual.
