jimmyo,

Telecomm sats, hundreds will be launched in the next few years. Cape Canaveral is only one place U.S. satellites are launched from. French Guyana is another big one (the French company Arianespace launches from there). Russian and China add to the list (Proton and Long March, respectively), and other countries are trying to get into the launch business. There's also a company (Orbital Sciences) that drops a beefed up mini-rocket from an airplane at high altitude to deliver satellites to low earth orbit. Then there's Sea Launch, moving well along in the developmental stage; a floating platform to, well, do sea launches.

It just means that the telecom explosion hasn't even begun to slow down.

Nextel - on the pad, candle lit, but hasn't cleared the gantry yet.
