China Begins Clinical Trials Of Viagra BEIJING (AP)--Hospitals in several Chinese cities have begun conducting clinical trials of the impotence drug Viagra to determine its safety, an official report said Friday. Trials have already begun on 600 male volunteers, married and aged above 22, who are to record their reactions to either Viagra or a placebo over the next two months, the Xinhua News Agency reported. The State Drug Administration is staging the tests at seven hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai and the central Chinese city of Wuhan to decide if Viagra's maker, U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. (PFE), will be allowed to market the little blue pill here. Black markets for Viagra have sprung up in China and elsewhere in Asia. One recent report said a Chinese pharmacist had been arrested on suspicion he sold the pills for 300 yuan ($1=CNY8.2796) apiece, more than three times the price in the U.S.
