Intel, Dell, Others To Develop New Input/Output Pdt

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Intel Corp. (INTC), Dell Computer Corp. (DELL), Hitachi Ltd.
(HIT), Siemens AG and Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) will form a Next Generation Input/Output
Industry Group to develop and implement a new Input/Ouput architecture.

In a press release Thursday, Intel said the NGIO architecture will provide direct, expandable interface
between main memory and controller devices such as network communication storage and processing
systems.

The company said contributions to the core specification will be licensed on a "mutual royalty-free
basis."

The companies will base the new product on architecture under development for two years by a group
of companies, led by Intel, and anticipate the product will be available in 2000.

It was posted on the Yahoo thread.
