jfred--

Surprised me! It was like this: the regular teacher had "pink-eye", we were told (and so of course imagined that her eyes had turned pink like a rabbit's; children are so literal-minded), and for some reason we didn't like the substitute, or simply thought (in the time-honored tradition) that she existed to be tormented. So I persuaded a number of my classmates to stand up on their chairs and yell when I gave a signal. Don't remember any more whether the teacher picked up on the signal or whether one of the more snivelly kids ratted on me. One way or another, I got sent to the corner.

I learned a valuable lesson: leadership qualities will get you absolutely nowhere in life. Except the corner.
