Does Cable Modem access differ significantly at the CORE of the network. Wouldn't it be possible that it will ignite the need for more Core switching, since all it takes is a Cable Modem at the edge. Cable modems will be a commodity business where 3 COM shines. ASND never was in at the edge commodity businesses. Moreover 2/3 of the people have no cable access. DIAL access and DSL will cover the rest.

Don't get carried away with CSCO hype, they can not make much profits in Cable modems. They are trying to stimulate the demand for Core equipment and Routers by promoting the Cable access that's all.

Do not forget ASND is a WAN company. Whatever is the access they need more WAN equipment which has high margins.
