Franklin's DVG Named Product of the Year;

Gateway Honored by Internet Telephony Magazine

Business Wire - January 08, 1999 11:33
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1999--Franklin Telecom (OTC BB:FTEL) Friday announced that its Tempest Data Voice Gateway(R) has been named Product of the Year for UNIX-based Gateways by Internet Telephony magazine.

This honor was announced in the January 1999 issue of the publication, which focuses on voice, video, fax and data convergence.

The editors cited the Tempest's ability to unite geographically dispersed workgroups by integrating voice and fax over an existing LAN/WAN network. They also referenced the Tempest AMAS system, which allows integrated accounting, debit-card billing and authentication.

Franklin's President Peter Buswell said: "The last several months have seen great progress in our Tempest System. It becomes more 'feature rich' with each passing month. Our expanded line interfaces give us a much broader marketplace and our revenues are reflecting this. We're obviously very pleased at this honor from Internet Telephony."

Frank Peters, chairman and chief executive officer, said: "Since its introduction in late 1997, the Tempest has received consistent praise for its voice quality. This recognition is another validation of our product especially in the light of recent orders."

The primary business of Franklin Telecom, founded in 1981, is the design and manufacturing of communications devices, high-speed LAN, WAN, telco and software.
