Hi Luke:

<< These papers point out that there is no theoretical performance difference between DMT and CAP. The reason the Labs chose CAP is that implementation is fundamentally different (read the white paper I referenced previously). >>

Luke but some people are pointing out that CAP's disadvantage is the LU's monopoly on the chipset manufacture. DMT is being developed by MOT, TI, NEC, ADI, which promisses to make it very inexpansive.

Do you still believe that CAP has a chance to prevail in the battle between CAP and DMT? The reason I am asking is (IMO) all utility phone companies are leaning toward DMT.

I personally think the whole idea of Assymetrical DSL is not a very good one, unless some information services are moved into central offices, which could be done only on the limited basis. If utility phone co. offeres a subscriber 8MBps in one direction it will have to charge this subscriber for both, becasue the trunk has to have full duplex capacity. So I believe in the next 2-3 years SDSL at 1 to 2 MBps will be the major offering and it seems to me WSTL is gearing up for this.
