EchoStar gives details on WebTV venture

EchoStar announced details of its joint venture with Microsoft's
Web TV Network that will create the first Internet TV service
delivered via satellite.

Direct-to-home satellite provider EchoStar this spring will offer the
Model 7100 receiver with built-in WebTV Plus hardware
including an 8.6GB hard drive to sell for $499 (including the
EchoStar satellite dish).

The new system allows consumers to mix TV viewing with web
surfing or surf the web while watching a video and includes a new
feature called Video Pause -- which will freeze a TV program for
up to 30 minutes for later viewing.

Additionally, Microsoft WebTV Network's Steve Perlman
announced that future web upgrades will include the ability to
download MP-3 digital audio at a rate of two minutes for a full
CD, with a total capacity of up to 1,000 hours of music. A second
upgrade will allow downloading full-length movies overnight for
future viewing on demand, said Perlman.

Perlman said WebTV has not ruled out similar deals with DirecTv
or others.
