Here's what I know about Goodnoise (GDNO)

First some background:
I've been facinated by the MP3 phenomenon for some time now and have used winamp and MusicMatch to convert about 500 songs from my personal CD collection into MP3 files for my own personal use on my home machine. Since doing so, I have completely stopped using my favorite and very expensive home stereo system. Just as I was 100% certain back in October 1994 that Netscape was the center of the "New Universe" and stopped everything that I was doing to get into the company, where I worked until earlier this year, I am 100% certain that the MP3 revolution will ripple through the bizarre and very inefficient and unfair music industry. Inefficient because there's no reason for me to have to go the store (or go to Amazon or CDNow for that matter) and buy a disc with a bunch of ones and zeros on it. Unfair because as an artist, I'm currently paid $0.05 on the dollar by Tommy Mottola (sp) of Sony Music, for my creative efforts. Imagine if Bill Gates had to build msft on the same model!!!

So, what I am certain of is this- the music industry- and much much more quickly that 99% of the population realizes is going to be turned on its head. Why? Because overnight there's a new, efficient distribution channel that has come to the fore. And guess what? Goodnoise (gdno) is right at the center and the forefront of it.

Now back to specifics- about three weeks ago I called Steve Grady, Goodnoise's VP or Director ( I forget exactly) of Marketing and PR. We spoke about the folly of the RIAA initiatives to try and circumvent MP3 with a competing standard. We spoke of their ownership- through acquisition of another web site- of the www.emusic.com domain. We spoke of their efforts to sign new musicians to contracts that provide a $0.50 on the dollar royalty rate. We spoke of the hard core music industry specific talent that exists at GDNO. We spoke of the industry conditions- who hasn't heard of the Diamond Rio player by now?- that are all pointing to one thing-

A HUGE MARKET OPPORTUNITY FOR COMPANIES LIKE GDNO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So decide for yourself. Do the research. Look at the trends that are really really really big. Look at their management team. And then decide if GDNO just might have a chance at doing something really cool.

Not to mention....Really really profitable.

Cheers,

Nick Zaharias
