A Microsoft spokesman, responding to a story that appeared Friday in USA Today, said the Redmond, Wash., company has no plans to sell off its network, which includes the popular Hotmail program, an Internet access service, online publications such as Slate and e-commerce sites such as Expedia.com.
USA Today reported that Microsoft officials discussed, then put on the back burner, selling MSN to AT&T.
Microsoft (MSFT) spokesman Marty Taucher, while declining to comment on the veracity of the AT&T discussions, said the opposite is true and that no part of the network is on the selling block.
Taucher said Microsoft will continue to invest heavily in MSN, and that the Internet access portion of the business should be profitable this year. Also, MSN plans to spend $100 million marketing the Internet access business this year, he said. |
