Caterpillar Named Diesel Progress 1998 Newsmaker of the Year
BROOKFIELD, Wis., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Diesel Progress magazine has named Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT - news) as its 1998 Newsmaker of the Year. Caterpillar was cited for its wide ranging activities in 1998, including the acquisition of Perkins Engines, the launch of its new compact construction equipment line, the purchase of Kato Engineering, the development of the HEUI-B and MEUI-B diesel fuel systems, the joint venture with Tamrock, the new Caterpillar-Claas combine facility, and many other smaller deals.

These markets include on-highway and off-highway vehicles, stationary engine-powered installations such as power generation, oil & gas, pumps, compressors, and marine applications.
