Caterpillar Named Diesel Progress 1998 Newsmaker of the Year

BROOKFIELD, Wis., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Diesel Progress magazine has named Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT - news) as its 1998 Newsmaker of the Year. Caterpillar was cited for its wide ranging activities in 1998, including the acquisition of Perkins Engines, the launch of its new compact construction equipment line, the purchase of Kato Engineering, the development of the HEUI-B and MEUI-B diesel fuel systems, the joint venture with Tamrock, the new Caterpillar-Claas combine facility, and many other smaller deals.

The Newsmaker of the Year Award, a Waterford crystal bowl, was presented to Caterpillar chairman Donald V. Fites and Caterpillar senior officers at a luncheon on December 17.

The Diesel Progress Newsmaker of the Year Award was inaugurated in 1997 to honor the company, person, product, technology or industry trend that made in the most news in the heavy duty industrial engine and equipment markets during the previous calendar year. These markets include on-highway and off-highway vehicles, stationary engine-powered installations such as power generation, oil & gas, pumps, compressors, and marine applications. The 1997 Newsmaker of the Year was Dana Corp [NYSE:DCN - news].

Diesel Progress is a 63-year-old monthly trade magazine headquartered in Brookfield, Wis. Covering virtually anything powered by industrial diesel, gasoline, natural gas, or gas turbine engines, Diesel Progress is one of six publications of the parent company, Diesel & Gas Turbine Publications.
