The five largest retailers in the U.S. are Wal-Mart, K Mart, Sears,
Dayton Hudson and JC Penny. They are listed in order of sales. Only Wal-Mart has a larger market cap than AMZN. AMZN at $ 185/share times the number of shares outstanding ( plus the additional 10 million pre-split shares which will become outstanding shares when employees exercise their options) has a market cap equal to the market cap of K Mart, Sears and JC Penny combined. Quite extraordinary.
