PORTFOLIO UPDATE 1/9:

I switched to Quicken this year which makes it much easier to see performance and overall percentages of my holdings. I will try to include those numbers with each update.

Portfolio Gain/Loss Year to Date: +6.6%

Core Holdings: WCOM, BRKB, CMGI (maybe in and out after recent performance) - total 36% of portfolio

50% Gains Candidates: EQNX, FNDTF, FLYR, IFMX, KEA, MFNX (expecting more than 50%), OMPT (bought for buyout play), PLCM, VRIO, XYLN. Sold NITE much too soon at a loss, but the circumstances are very murky there. Stopped out of JDEC flat and VSAT at a loss. Also stopped out of MRCY at a 30% profit. Total - 50% of portfolio (coincidence, huh?)

Tradin' Trash: NRAG, ERGO, FTIC, KCS, NGPSF - total 10%

Cash: 4%

I closed a short in ENML for 2 ½ points or 30%, and a short in FIBR yielded 3 ½ points or 20%.

TOP PERFORMERS

CMGI up 66% since 12/22 (latest shares bought at 120). Splits 2 –1 on Monday.
IFMX up 60% since 12/3
WCOM up 46% (will re-buy a position on Monday)
KEA up 40% since 12/7
MFNX up 18% since 1/7
FNDTF up 14% since 12/28
PLCM up 11% since 12/24
XYLN up 9% since 12/31
FHT up 8% since 12/24
BRKB up 6% since 12/14
FTIC up 6% since 11/23
VRIO up 6% since 1/7
EQNX up 4% since 11/23

OMPT down 1.5% since 1/8
ERGO down 10% since 11/23 and 12/7 (avg. price 1.25)
NGPSF down 11% since 11/23
FLYR down 18% since 12/29
KCS down 20% since 12/3
NRAG down 70% since 10/97
CCSI (short) down 70% since 10/31

It's pretty clear that quality stocks are doing well while end-of-year tradin' trash is languishing. I will start to clean out the dog pound if they don't perk up soon. That type of stock will not fare well in a small cap pullback.

In terms of dollar gains/losses they rank like this:

WCOM
CMGI
KEA
IFMX
BRKB
MFNX
FNDTF
PLCM
XYLN
VRIO
EQNX
FHT
FTIC

ERGO
OMPT
NGPSF
KCS
FLYR
CCSI (short)
NRAG

On January 1, I had 11 winners, 1 flat and 11 losers. Thanks to market action and good trades, I now have 13 winners and 7 losers.

Sector Balance:

Financial/Consumer Services – BRKB
Internet – CMGI, FHT, VRIO
Telcoms – WCOM, MFNX, OMPT
Software – IFMX, FNDTF
Hardware – EQNX, NGPSF, PLCM, XYLN
Computer Services – KEA
Gaming – NRAG
Travel – FLYR
Energy – KCS
Misc. – FTIC, CCSI (short), ERGO

As I mentioned in a previous post, I will add at least one new 50% candidate this week.
