good points for a blankmind...$8 million is a lot for advertising...my son tells me he could do the web site for $500...though he tends to exagerate.

on the brick & mortar side--i spend a lot of time in 3 bookstores:
borders
little professor (regional--OH)
barnes & noble

my observation is borders blows the others away from a resource standpoint...better than the local public library on most every topic. barnes & noble is more a social hall but i'm not so sure that isn't what people are looking for. Barnes seems to hold the edge as far as advertising / creating an image is concerned. I simply have no "image" of borders from an advtsg standpoint--this is not good imho. if nothing else they need to differentiate themselves or at the very least call attn to themselves..."Borders--the place to read & buy books after coffee at barnes & noble"--

am i off base here--do they adtise? if not do you see barnes taking over
