Hi BearcatBob,

Coning is a very local, near wellbore phenomenon. The geometry of a water cone is a function of several different reservoir properties. But, it will be, as the name implies, in the general shape of an inverted ice cream cone. At the very top of the cone, it would only be a couple of feet across. The diameter of the cone increases with reservoir depth. At its base it could cover a few acres.

Bob, I wouldn't be concerned about the replacement well drilling into the water cone. They can steer the new well away from the first well IF they want to.

Have a great day.

Later,
grayhairs

FYI -- I understand from the street that they may be roasting wieners and melting snow out at the Hartell #1 well this weekend.
