Hey David,
Thanks for your post. Microsoft and possibly Netscape as welI, indeed can, and probably will, pose formidable competition against Yahoo. Yahoo definately has a strong head start. I believe in David Filo, Jerry Yang, and Yahoo's management as a whole. They have demonstrated themselves to be both creative and innovative when it comes to finding new ways to expand and earn money. Yahoo is well equipped for the game.
I took the liberty to peruse Yahoo's city and international sites. I clicked through the index looking for revenue winning banner ads, i.e. ads other than for Yahoo itself. This is my estimation of each site's performance:

Main Yahoo - spinning like a top - lots of bread winning ads
Yahoo Japan - poor performance - very few ad banners
Yahoo U.K./Ireland - another good bread winner
Yahoo Germany - poor performance
Yahoo France - quite good - I was impressed since this site is young
Yahoo Canada - didn't make it there it was getting late
Yahoo Boston - Thumbs down - but this site is in its infancy
Yahoo N.Y. - good site - money being made here
Yahoo Chicago - Best of the city sites - money maker
Yahoo Washington - average site - needs more advertizers
Yahoo Austin - quite poor - another baby though
Yahoo S.F. - Ranks right on up there with Chicago
Yahoo L.A. - good site - comparable to N.Y.

I feel the need to do some comentating, but I guess I'll just keep it simple. Otherwise, I might prove myself to be a fool!

By the way, what the heck is IMHO. Is this some sort of disclaimer?

Best Regards,
Kevin
