Scotsman,

I believe I understand your opinions on Amazon and Border's, and I did think about how an Amazon investor might view a deal with a company like Border's, but I would bet that a combination would be a validation of each other's model with the realization that there can be a lot of commonalities between the two.

In another business, I look at Worldcom/MCI and Airtouch, a rumored combination. Some have said this invalidates Worldcom's catering to the business customer. That's silly (and inaccurate, too). When they bought MCI, they bought into the consumer market in a huge way. If they went for Airtouch (which I hope they don't get, for personal reasons), the combination would be powerful.

Whether you visit a site by finger or foot, there has to be a physical presence behind it. I disagree with your observation that Barnes and Noble is a more sociable place than Border's - I think the opposite.

Good investing,
Dave
