---OT I have seen the future of 3D gaming...
it's called "shenmue"... and it's wrapped up in a little console called "dreamcast"... check it out:

I am THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED. The level of detail should make any pc game developer blush. The colors are rich and saturated, and the human motions are nothing short of spectacular (though still a little choppy, but still the best i've seen so far) I swear, i thought some of those pictures were the REAL THING, but what got me were the MPEGs showing the game off in real time...
what does that have to do with 3Dfx? If they even want to get into the console market, they better damn well do so with a big player with really good console developer support, or else they're going to get into some big trouble getting quality stuff out to market. The console market is entirely based on software sales, hardware alone will get you nothing ( sony playstation for $129? that includes the cd-rom, the chips, the controllers, etc. how much margin do you think they make off of that? ). The money is made from software royalties paid to the platform. From what i've heard that ranges from 7% to about 15%.
which also brings the question: does anyone know the portability of dreamcast NEC/videologic code to the pc version of the NEC/videologic chip? from my understanding dreamcast is using a subset of the microsoft directX platform...
