Therein lies the problem. As I said, I live in the boonies. The telco is privately owned and is one of the two (2) isp's in this area, otherwise I pay long distance charges just to access the net. I am now on the telco isp, having left the (only) other isp last summer because of their busy signals. I'm told the telco has already installed fiber optic lines, but is stalled for the time being. I happen to live beside their substation. It is literally 20+ yards from my computer. Anybody remember Mission Impossible -- the TV show? I dream of tunneling under the floor from my basement, hooking up a few aligator clips and having many dedicated lines and free long distance. Alas.
