Whenever Spartech has a press release, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch usually sends out a reporter to interview the CEO. There are usually a few newsy items not covered in the press release. Here is the article:

Spartech Corp. of Clayton, which aims to be a consolidator in the plastics industry, has announced its 10th acquisition since l993. Spartech bought Lustro Plastics Co. of Evanston, Ill., for $10.4 million.

Lustro specializes in making plastic for "clamshell" packaging, the sort of hinged package that might be used to encase a set of steak knives or an alarm clock, for example. This would be a new product for Spartech, which is best known for its thicker plastics.

Lustro has 125 employees at its single plant in Evanston. Sales approach $28 million a year, which will push Spartech's annual sales over $750 million.

The acquisition will be added to Spartech's earnings immediately, said Bradley Buechler, president and chief executive.

Spartech's stock hit a 52-week high of $24 on Thursday.

The company will mail its annual report and proxy to shareholders next week. The annual meeting will be at 10 a.m. March 10 at the St. Louis Club.
