It appears that IBM's latest mainstream business PCs in the 300GL series that use 400 or 450 MHz Pentium II processors come with ESS PCI audio (all the rest, including new Celeron systems, use ISA audio from Cirrus Logic).

This is far from the majority of business PCs that IBM ships, but it is an encouraging sign for ESS as the business/corporate PC market transitions to PCI audio (I believe ESS's audio chip sales for business PCs had been substantially limited to Compaq).

I also noticed that the highest-end line of Dell notebooks is also equipped with ESS PCI audio.

If ESS succeeds in capturing the majority of PCI audio designs among major PC OEMs, then that could become a substantial revenue stream for ESS, given that price pressure for PCI audio remains acceptable.
