i tend to agree w/you vladimir--1-2 Mbps symmetric would
appear to be cheaper than 8 down and 2 up.

I took a look at one of the articles mentioned by Luke--
he is both right and wrong. He is correct that there is
no theoretical performance difference between CAP and DMT.
However, what he fails to point out is that unless spectral
decomposition is utilized, CAP suffers substantially more from
many types of noise than does DMT. In addition, if a RADSL
CAP solution is employed that is spectrally decomposed, then
the most cost-effective means to acheive this is via DMT.

Finally, I'm curious as to whether there will be any direct
head-to-head field comparisons (not with new copper and optimal
conditions, but rather real world conditions) that will be
publically available anytime soon. My only information on field
results comes from a NORTEL engineer who said that CAP speeds
and reach were alot less than DMT when noise was present on the
line.

If several direct comparison's were available that disproved the
above, I would jump more on the CAP bandwagon, but in any of
the published comparisons, CAP has either avoided direct one-to-one
comparisons, or has fared poorly.
